02F: Queen Stories
Join us for a night of unbridled storytelling with Joyful Raven and her bevy of Bay Area Queens. Joyful will be sharing a new story called Tactical Frivolity about growing up in the radical theater.
Queen Stories features celebrated Bay Area poet Silvi Alcivar, hilarious rising star Daisy Crane, and Pussy Evangelist Katie Macks. Queen Stories is co-produced with well-known Bay Area comic Holly Shaw and hosted/directed by Joyful Raven. This evening promises to be a celebration of resilience, humor, and fierce storytelling.
Joyful Raven in Tactical Frivolity
Joyful never had a fighting chance at anything akin to a normal life. She was forced into animal print unitards and political positions long before she was a consenting adult. You think your parents were embarrassing? Did you have to sing about salmon sex, on stage, in a unitard at 12 years old… WITH your parents? I didn’t think so.
Joyful Raven is a critically acclaimed solo performer and story midwife. Her latest show, Breed or Bust, earned rave reviews at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe (★★★★★ Theatre Weekly), was Offie-nominated, and had an extended run at The Marsh, SF (Critic’s Pick, SF Chronicle). Her prior show, Sexual Tomboy, won Best of Fringe (2016) and ran Off-Broadway (2017). She teaches at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Marsh, and her own studio.
Daisy Crane (she/her) in Modern Moral Mania
Daisy Crane graduated with a Master’s in Peace and Justice in May of 2020. Bright-eyed and full of wonder, she entered a burning, shelter-in-place world with no jobs, barely any coral reefs, and an onslaught of social upheaval that hasn’t stopped. Now that she’s bidding farewell to her 20s and turning 30, she’s got a lot to say.
Silvi Alcivar (she/her) in Snow White (and the part of the story she doesn’t know when or how to say)
A snow white tale akin to the disney version, plus the brothers grimm, carried by truth and hummingbird wings.
Katie Macks in Inner Activist
The vageni is out of the bottle. We’re taking a ride from the confines of the patriarchal world culture to the freedom that ensues when one does their own work to find liberation in unexpected places.
