A Boy, His Turtle and Humboldt on the National Stage
Often when we think of our own small corner of the globe getting national attention we think some adult did something grandiose to cause it. That is unless you forgot to factor in McKinleyville resident and KHUM Kid Calvin Koczera and a turtle names “Flash”
This summer 10 year old Calvin made a big “splash” in Minnesota at the 62nd annual Nisswa Turtle Races. A race that his mom and his grandparents have all participated in. The difference in this family story is that Calvin beat 588 contestants in three heats crowning him the National Champion!
Calvin and his mom came into the KHUM studios to sit down with Toby in the Morning to discuss competition, perseverance, tactics and turtles!
