Director Kristy Hellum and Producer Melinda Pederson stopped by Toby in the Morning to discuss the upcoming weekend performance of The Vagina Monologues at The Eureka Theater.

The love behind the topic, the recently discovered passion of putting it all together and the sheer guts and desire to positively support Humboldt Domestic Violence Services as well as Together Women Rise gave way to a wonderful conversation on air (accessible below) where the innuendos and puns were a real “hot button topic” throughout.

25 years after the first showing of Vagina Monlogues took place at The Eureka Theater and was also directed by Kristy, the landscape has changed for women’s right, equality and education as so therefore, the show has adapted. A more modern take on topics coupled with the nostalgia of the openness of the original should make for a wonderfully expressive show!

As a man and a girl dad, I am excited to go and gather information on a topic that has traditionally alluded us men in an all inclusionary and comfortable setting.

Replete with design surprises in the lobby, silent auction, live music and tabling, it seems like a magical V-Day Weekend is approaching.
