Brisa Roche on Toby in the Morning

Brisa Roche By Toby Tullis.

Visiting her family and home on an extended stay all the way from Paris, France, Toby in the Morning was able to get International music star Brisa Roche, with the incomparable assistance from her (literal) lifelong friend of Leona Taylor, in the booth for an extended interview and commentary on just a few of her tracks that talk about Humboldt.

Brisa was born and raised right here in rural Humboldt county off the grid in a commune(ish), homestead(ish) home that her mother still calls home today.

From ages 0-13 she let our Redwood Curtain mold and shape the amazing human that she is today. Introduced to music by her upbringing as well as the Redwood Coast Children’s Choir which also provided her first taste of international travel, Brisa was formed forever by the very place we call home.

A stay in Seattle in the days of Grunge would begin to give shape to her beginning musical form and later honed in the London Underground where she busked and sang at clubs until being discovered by Blue Note Records.

Many albums later and now supported by her own label Black Ash we dig into the details of her life as well as sample the diversity of three songs inspired and written about our very own landscape.

You can listen to the entirety of her interview right here!
