Avi Kaplan joined KHUM’s Jordan Dobbins for an extended conversation about new music, creative collaboration, and the choral roots that continue to shape his work. The two share a connection through the collegiate choir world, bringing a familiar warmth to the interview.

There’s some catching up, some musician talk, and a lot about what makes the work meaningful.

Recorded for KHUM’s Artist of the Week feature, the conversation explores Kaplan’s forthcoming album, recorded at his cabin with musicians playing together and the sound captured to tape. He discusses performing at AmericanaFest, bringing the layered vocals of “Open Up Your Mind” to the stage, and working with collaborators who help draw out his artistic vision.
