Simple Machines is spending the week at Dell’Arte International in Blue Lake, offering workshops and bringing its original physical comedy Say When to the Carlo Theatre. Jordan talks with ensemble member Mark Benzel about the company’s collaborative process, his Epic Physical Storytelling workshop, and how actors can use movement to make big stories clear. They also dig into Say When, inspired by flamboyant 19th-century socialite Evander Berry Wall, and how clown, costumes and projections open up questions about wealth, excess and privilege. The show runs Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with more workshops happening Saturday. Hear the conversation above.
