Power Lines Down in Scotia Area; Calfire Attacking 'Small Spot Fire' at Stafford Road Exit

UPDATE, 2:57 p.m.: Not so small a spot fire as was thought, apparently. A firefighter overheard via scanner estimates the fire as “less than an acre” in the understory of a forest, but with “no rate of spread.” There’s a helicopter involved.

###

UPDATE, 2:43 p.m.: One firefighter told Calfire dispatch a few moments ago that the fire is back in the woods a ways, near Jordan Creek. A Humboldt Redwoods Company employee is ferrying him back to the scene now.

###

Almost 250 PG&E customers are without power along the northern end of the Avenue of the Giants, after some downed power lines near the Stafford Road offramp sparked a small vegetation fire.

A bunch of Calfire companies were notified of the fire a few moments ago, but the first to arrive called it a “small spot fire,” and probably handleable. They’re getting down to it now, according to scanner traffic.
