POLL! It’s Been Four Years Since Cal Poly Humboldt’s President Has Bothered to Talk to the Campus Newspaper. Is That OK?
The Lumberjack has had it. Earlier this week, Cal Poly Humboldt’s student-run newspaper noted an eyebrow-raising statistic on its Instagram account: It’s been 1,500+ days since President Tom Jackson has submitted to an interview with student journalists. This despite, by The Lumberjack’s count, 25 official requests to Jackson’s office this semester alone.
“The Lumberjack has attempted to interview University President Tom Jackson about numerous issues since his arrival in 2019,” the paper posted online. “Now, again after 4 years, The Lumberjack would like a chance to get to know the leader of Cal Poly Humboldt, in order to gain insights about the future of our campus.”
The ‘Jack said it plans to regularly update its counter until Jackson responds.
As the trusted arbiters of all aspects of Humboldt life, we bring this issue before the LoCO poll-etariat. What do you think about Jackson’s decision not to engage with campus media?
