POLL! Florida Just Barred Kids Under 14 From Social Media. Should We Be Doing That in California?
Last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that bans children under 14 from social media platforms while also requiring that 14- and 15-year-olds obtain parental consent for access to such sites. What are your thoughts on this?

“The data is clear. Social media has had a devastating effect on the health and happiness of our young people. Florida’s move, here, is a step in the right direction and a model for the rest of the country.”

“I am not prone to bestowing praise on Governor Desantis, but this decision was bold and needed. I would like to see similar action taken in California.”

“Kids are citizens, too, and as such are protected by the First Amendment. They should have access to safe, regulated online forums where they can responsibly express themselves. Instead of restricting access, work with social media companies to create products that are less addictive and provide fewer opportunities for abuse to occur.”

“Sorry, but whether my child has access to social media or not should be my decision, not the government’s. Parents’ rights must be respected!”

“My only complaint is that this bill does not go far enough! I would be in favor of social media restrictions for kids until they’re even older. Maybe 16? 18? These wealthy tech giants should not have this level of access to our children.”

“I have a different take which I will articulate in the comments below.”
