POLL! Do You Think the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Would Benefit From a Civilian Oversight Board?
Pictured: An example of excessive oversight
PREVIOUSLY:
The big talk at this week’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting: Should a new civilian oversight board be established to keep an eye on the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office? The local grand jury says yes . Sheriff Honsal says no . But what do you say?
?? %
“Absolutely! An oversight board would boost transparency and accountability—exactly what we need to earn the public’s trust in local law enforcement. Sheriff Honsal should be rolling out the red carpet for this! Bring on the oversight!”
?? %
“No way. Such a body would just add another obstacle to protecting our community. Oversight is already provided by numerous existing state level departments. It’s hard enough to be a cop these days. Let’s not make it harder.”
?? %
“I dunno. Sounds like the finer points of such a move would be best deliberated by an ad hoc committee! I will reserve judgment until then. AD HOC! AD HOC! AD HOC!”
?? %
“Gah! Just show me what other people think!”
