POLL! Can You Imagine Yourself Taking the New Eureka-to-Ukiah Redwood Coast Express?
Last week, the Humboldt Transit Authority announced an ambitious new offering for riders looking to cheaply travel between Humboldt and Mendocino counties. The Redwood Coast Express (RCX) is already up and running, offering trips from Eureka (leaving at 10 a.m.) to Ukiah (arriving at 1:30 p.m.) and back again (2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) with stops in Fortuna, Garberville, Leggett, Laytonville and Willits along the way.
Even insaner, the price is certainly generous with the starting fare set at a mere $2. Wow wow wow. (See the announcement here for all the deets.)
As you might imagine, this transportation upgrade was met with near universal praise when LoCO posted to our Facebook page. Hell, LoCO will reveal its bias and confess we were pumped about it too.
But our ears perked up during last night’s Eureka City Council meeting when, during public comment, local public transportation enthusiast Joanne McGarry stated she had been the only rider on the RCX’s maiden voyage. Which made us start thinking: Who is this route for? Can we imagine the circumstances under which we’d find ourselves a rider?
