POLL! Should President Jackson Be Fired as a Result of His Handling of the Cal Poly Humboldt Protest?
Yesterday, over 300 Cal Poly Humboldt faculty and staff released an open letter demanding President Tom Jackson’s “immediate termination” in the wake of the “violent and fearful” response that ended the pro-Palestine protester occupation a week ago.
Do you agree? Should Jackson be forced out?

“Yes. In a time of crisis, Jackson failed to be present and communicative with his campus community. What little we did hear from him came across as petty and condescending. More is required of a true leader, especially one earning his hefty paycheck. Instead of a measured, mature response, our community will forever remember the images of the militarized show of force Jackson signed off on. Shame. He must go.”

“No. Jackson was put in an impossible position. If we’re being honest, the protesters were not going to reasonably negotiate or agree to leave; still, they were ultimately removed without injuries. Were it not for our man’s steady hand, we’d still be living with the occupation. Kudos on a job well done, Mr. President!”

“Jackson’s response was lackluster, but there were really only bad options for resolving this. He should not be fired.”

“I honestly don’t know what to think. Perhaps in the coming days and weeks we will learn more about what was happening behind the scenes during this whole saga. It was all very messy, but I feel uneasy passing judgment with the information I have.”
