POLL! In Response to Texas’ Gerrymandering Efforts, Should California Also Redraw Its Congressional Districts?
In a dramatic move, Texas House Democrats fled their state over the weekend in an attempt to stop state Republicans from moving forward with plans to redraw congressional maps that could potentially give the the GOP an unprecedented advantage ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. The plan seems to have worked. For now.
Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin Newsom is attempting to counter Texas’ proposed gerrymandering with his own redistricting plan. As noted on LoCO last week, Newsom is considering a special election this year asking voters to permit California lawmakers to redraw the state’s congressional map in ways that would benefit Democrats in 2026.
For the record, the Supreme Court has ruled this is all fair game. Tense and silly times, for sure. But how do you feel about the options here? What would you like to see California do?
