Last week, OpenAI launched its latest product sure to improve the human experience in the longterm. Sora, arguably the most sophisticated readily available text-to-video generation platform offered to the common folk, has already been filling your social media timelines with realistic looking clips, whether you know it or not. As you might imagine, it’s already being used for nefarious purposes.
Well, then. If we’re facing “the end of visual fact,” as one New York Times writer put it, this seems as good a time as any to check in on the brains closest to us here in Humboldt. How’s y’all’s grip on reality faring these days? Have you caught yourself being fooled by AI-generated imagery? Are you sure?
