Last night Dezmond Remington, watching the Fortuna City Council meeting, pinged back to LoCO HQ to say: Wow, Fortuna is actually thinking about selling the River Lodge.

Jaws dropped. Fortuna’s finances must be very bad indeed for the council to consider that.

So as you read earlier today, the council did not sell the River Lodge. Instead, councilmembers voted to explore the idea of leasing the River Lodge out to some third party, which would then assume the burden of running the thing. The idea of actually selling the River Lodge was too much for the council to bear. Understandably. 

That’s why we were a bit flabbergasted by the take from LoCO commenter “You What?” that is highlighted above. No judgment, but how is it possible that You What?, despite being from Arcata, has never heard of the River Lodge? Hasn’t everyone heard of the River Lodge and hasn’t almost everyone been to the River Lodge, at one point or another? Isn’t it, like, kind of the crown jewel of Fortuna? Or one of the crown jewels?

But maybe we’re living in our own bubble. Leaving aside the question of the Depot Museum for the moment — though, again, wow — have you ever heard of the Fortuna River Lodge? And where are you from?
