On the cultural front, this week has been all about squawking over director Christopher Nolan’s new, three-hour adaptation of The Odyssey, featuring Matt Damon as your main man, Odysseus.

The movie is on track to make a kajillion dollars, but people were picking at it before it was even released. They didn’t like the casting! They didn’t like Matt Damon! They didn’t like Christopher Nolan’s takes! 

The noise has only increased since the movie was released last week to massive public appetite. It’s a huge hit. But on the one hand, the Homer scholars sneer at the alleged whitewashing of the material. On the other, Elon Musk has vowed to release an AI-generated version, one that fixes all the unacceptable wokeness, before the end of the year.
