Today comes word that the city’s engineering department has completed a draft design for the G Street Bicycle Boulevard project, and that this design will be unveiled at the regular Tuesday meeting of the city’s Transportation Safety Committee. (Tuesday, June 9, at 3:30 p.m. in Eureka City Hall. Zoom instructions available in the agenda.)

Here’s what the staff report for the item has to say:

In April 2026, the City of Eureka’s Engineering Department released a survey to the public soliciting feedback on existing and future bike boulevards. The survey was open for just over two weeks and had over 1,000 responses.

With survey feedback in mind, Engineering staff has prepared a draft design for the future G Street Bike Boulevard. The proposed design includes paving, improved pedestrian crossings, rapid flashing beacons, shared bike lanes, and two mini traffic circles.

Funding for the G Street Bike Boulevard comes from the Linc Housing Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grant.

We don’t have any design mockups or anything yet — those will make their debut at the meeting, we assume — but here’s a little more intelligence we received from engineering department Project Manager Brittany Powell:

Based on public feedback received, the design will include paving, a shared bike lane similar to what you see on M Street in Eureka, improved crossings with rapid flashing beacons, and two mini traffic circles.  The draft design does not include any one way directional changes or reductions in parking.

So how does that sound to you? Do you think you will like the G Street Bicycle Boulevard?

225 votes cast.
