CHP helicopter H-14 just had an extremely close call with an unidentified drone at 1200 feet AGL

todd / 8:29 p.m.

A CHP riot team is responding to Cal Poly Humboldt from Redding

todd / 8:12 p.m.

H-14 is reporting that individuals are fighting with officers at the entrance to a building (They believed it was the library, but I believe it is Siemens Hall). H-14 is leaving for fuel. HCSO’s communication center was being tied up with 911 calls demanding arrestees be released. Radio traffic from the search and rescue case in Hoopa has been disrupted by everything going on, but it sounds like a very unfortunate outcome up there.

todd / 7:35 p.m.

CHP H-14 has now been diverted from the search and rescue to respond to Cal Poly Humboldt

todd / 7:34 p.m.

Cal Poly Humboldt Riot Update: CHP H-14 is going to be heading to ACV for fuel shortly. They are inquiring if they will be needed for the incident at Cal Poly Humboldt after fueling, which would obviously remove them from the Hoopa search and rescue. Fire and medical are being requested code 3 to Cal Poly for staging. All agencies in the county are being asked to send any available units to assist. HCSO has a code 33 in effect on their frequency now. Their frequency was being utilized for some traffic on the Hoopa search and rescue

todd / 7:26 p.m.

A Code 30 has been declared for the Cal Poly Incident. Needless to say, resources are being stretched extremely thin between the multiple major incidents unfolding throughout the county.

todd / 7:24 p.m.

Cal Poly Humboldt Incident: Officers are making an emergency request for all available units from allied agencies to respond code 3 to the front of the library. An extremely chaotic situation seems to be developing.

todd / 7:23 p.m.

Hoopa Incident Update: A family member of the missing swimmer just jumped into the water at the Tish Tang Campground. A boat is being requested code 3 back to the campground. CHP H-14 is flying back upstream to assist with the family member in the water. One of the boats is currently removing the family member from the river and a code 3 ground ambulance is being requested to their location. They are reportedly alert and stable. CHP H-14 is returning to the search but has offered to divert to transport the family member if their condition changes.

todd / 6:58 p.m.

Update on Conditions: (multiple incidents) Hoopa Incident: CHP helicopter H-14 is flying over the Trinity River working further downstream from the Tish Tang Campground where the missing person entered the water. There is also reportedly a group of rafters passing through the area. Cal Poly Humboldt Incident: Officers are continuing to deal with the agitated crowd. Traffic for the incident is now on CLEMARS 1 (154.920) Weitchpec/Martins Ferry Incident: I did not hear the radio report, but CHP CAD is now reporting that this is a non-injury accident. REACH 5 appears to be flying back to Redding.

todd / 6:20 p.m.

Cal Poly Humboldt: A large group of protesters gathered earlier in the Siemens Hall area near the university president’s office. The situation escalated and University police requested assistance from Eureka and Arcata Police Departments as well as the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. Officers have made multiple announcements to disperse. The crowd seems to be continuing to escalate and officers are reporting that several suspects have now pushed their way past officers into the building. APD has sent a transport van, presumably for arrestees. Several have been detained so far.

todd / 6:11 p.m.

Weitchpec Traffic Collision w/ Extrication: In the area of the Martin’s Ferry Bridge for a vehicle over the side with at least one occupant trapped. Mutual aid from Orleans Fire and Arcata Ambulance has been requested and air ambulance helicopter REACH 5 is responding from Redding. There is a separate, ongoing search for a missing juvenile in the Trinity River in the Hoopa area where multiple agencies are committed. A Coast Guard helicopter has been involved in the search and CHP helicopter H-14 from Redding is responding to take over when the Coast Guard helicopter departs for fuel. Hoopa and HCSO have boats in the water and others are searching by ground.
