INSTRUCTIONS

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

DESCRIPTION

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest California, including the following counties, Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity.

* WHEN…Until 445 AM PST.

* IMPACTS…Small streams and creeks will rise sharply. Localized flooding will occur as creeks exceed their channel and culvert capacities. Culverts blocked by debris may also lead to enhanced local flooding. Rock and mudslides may occur above roads in steep areas during heaviest rainfall intensities.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 1133 PM PST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is already occurring in the advisory area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include… Arcata, Garberville, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, Richardson Grove State Park, Hayfork, Honeydew, Shelter Cove, Willow Creek, Covelo, Laytonville, Weaverville, Fortuna, Rio Dell, Alderpoint, Dinsmore, Ruth, Bridgeville, Forest Glen, Myers Flat and Redway. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
