INSTRUCTIONS

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.

DESCRIPTION

* WHAT…Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest California, including the following county, Humboldt.

* WHEN…Until 330 PM PDT.

* IMPACTS…Small streams and creeks will continue to rise this afternoon in the Mattole River Basin, Bear Creek Basin, and numerous other small basins near the coast. Ponding water will occur in low lying areas during periods of highest rainfall. The over topping of creeks may cause localized flooding. Culverts blocked by debris may also lead to localized flooding.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 1204 PM PDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. This is causing small stream flooding. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include… Honeydew, Shelter Cove, Petrolia, Whitehorn, Ettersburg and Briceland. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
