INSTRUCTIONS

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

DESCRIPTION

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest California, including the following counties, Del Norte and Humboldt.

* WHEN…Until 115 AM PST.

* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Potential for small rock and mud slides in areas of steep terrain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 953 PM PST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Flooding has been reported on Elk Valley Road north of Crescent City. Between 1.5 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include… Crescent City, Klamath, Orick, Jedediah Smith State Park, Orleans, Jack McNamera Field, Trinidad, Gasquet, Weitchpec, Smith River, Westhaven-Moonstone, Klamath Glen, Requa and Fort Dick. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
