INSTRUCTIONS

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

DESCRIPTION

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest California, including the following counties, Del Norte and Humboldt.

* WHEN…Until 130 AM PST Monday.

* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. Potential for small rock and mud slides in areas of steep terrain. Highway 101 between Klamath and Crescent City closed due to rock and mud slides.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 123 AM PST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include… Crescent City, Klamath, Orick, Jedediah Smith State Park, Orleans, Jack McNamera Field, Gasquet, Weitchpec, Bertsch- Oceanview, Crescent City North, Smith River, Westhaven- Moonstone, Klamath Glen, Requa and Fort Dick. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
