INSTRUCTIONS

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep terrain, especially in and around these areas.

DESCRIPTION

* WHAT…Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest California, including the following counties, Del Norte and Humboldt.

* WHEN…Until 245 PM PST.

* IMPACTS…Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 1043 AM PST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. This is causing urban and small stream flooding. Rapid river rises have already caused minor flooding in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include… Arcata, Crescent City, Hoopa, Willow Creek, Orick, Orleans, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, Klamath, Honeydew, Jedediah Smith State Park, Jack McNamera Field, Garberville, Richardson Grove State Park, Fortuna, Rio Dell, Trinidad, Maple Creek, McKinleyville, Westhaven-Moonstone and Weitchpec. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
