DESCRIPTION

* WHAT…Moderate flooding is forecast.

* WHERE…Mad River near Arcata.

* WHEN…Until late tonight.

* IMPACTS…At 24.0 feet, Extensive flooding along Mad River Beach Road and adjacent farmlands. Some homes along the river could be threatened. Flooding of roads to Tyee City. High tides and strong onshore winds will enhance flood impacts. At 26.0 feet, Severe flooding along Mad River Beach Road and extensive flooding of farmlands and other roads in the area. Flooding of residential areas around Tyee City is likely. Any low lying areas near the river could be flooded. Residents in these areas should be prepared to take appropriate action to protect lives and property.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 2:45 PM PST Saturday the stage was 20.7 feet. - Bankfull stage is 22.0 feet. - Forecast…The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this afternoon to a crest of 25.5 feet late this evening. It will then fall below flood stage just after midnight tonight. - Flood stage is 22.0 feet. - Flood History…This crest compares to a previous crest of 24.6 feet on 11/13/1957. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
