INSTRUCTIONS

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep terrain, especially in and around these areas.

DESCRIPTION

* WHAT…Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest California, including the following counties, Del Norte and Humboldt.

* WHEN…Until 800 AM PST Sunday.

* IMPACTS…Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 735 PM PST, Local law enforcement reported continued small stream flooding in the advisory area. This is causing urban and small stream flooding. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Although rain has tapered off, soils are saturated and runoff will continue to cause flooding overnight. - Some locations that will experience flooding include… Arcata, Crescent City, Hoopa, Willow Creek, Orick, Orleans, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, Klamath, Honeydew, Jedediah Smith State Park, Jack McNamera Field, Garberville, Richardson Grove State Park, Fortuna, Rio Dell, Trinidad, Maple Creek, McKinleyville, Westhaven-Moonstone and Weitchpec. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
