…MAJOR WINTER STORM THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY…

.A strong snow storm will impact the area beginning early Thursday morning. Snow levels will start above 3000 feet but will gradually drop into the weekend. Snow levels will most likely drop below 1000 feet throughout the area by Saturday morning. Very heavy snow should be expected on highway passes especially in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties.

* WHAT…Heavy snow possible for elevations above 2000 feet. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 12 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph.

* WHERE…Humboldt Interior.

* WHEN…From Thursday morning through Friday morning.

* IMPACTS…Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Snow will continue into Saturday with snow levels falling to lower elevations.
