You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

DESCRIPTION

A major atmospheric river storm is forecast to bring periods of heavy rain and the potential for major flooding in urban and rural areas late tonight through Friday. Small creeks and streams will rapidly rise and may come out of their banks. More extensive flooding, including flooding of main stem rivers, is forecast later in the week.

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

* WHERE…A portion of northwest California, including the Northern Humboldt Coast, Northern Humboldt Interior, Southern Humboldt Interior and Southwestern Humboldt.

* WHEN…From late tonight through Friday evening.

* IMPACTS…There will be an increased risk of rock and land slides along roadways. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - 2 to 6 inches of rain is expected to fall tonight and Wednesday, with an additional 2 to 4 inches possible Thursday. Over 12 inches of rain possible in the King Range by Thursday, with additional rain expected Friday and Saturday. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
