Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
DESCRIPTION
* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring.
* WHERE…Areas around Cape Mendocino and the King Range…
* Until 200 AM PST.
* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… - At 1044 PM PST, Local law enforcement reported flooding already occurring in the warned area. Between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.1 inches are possible in the warned area. The rain has diminished and stream and creeks have generally crested, but remain high. - Some locations that will experience flooding include… Eureka, Arcata, Hoopa, Willow Creek, Orick, Trinidad, Maple Creek, McKinleyville, Weitchpec, Westhaven-Moonstone, Salyer, Blue Lake, Fieldbrook, Kneeland, Arcata Arpt, Freshwater, Myrtletown, Cutten, Pine Hills and Bayview. - Flooding in areas near the Elk River, the Little River, Jacoby Creek and many other low lying areas. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
