Facing the outlanders, Humboldters unite and present a solid front.  But amongst themselves, there are some painful divisions.  Indoor vs Outdoor rivals Legalize vs Not Legalize as one of the most difficult to reach across.  I have strong opinions about the environmental damage that indoor marijuana causes.  Yet,  good people grow indoors and good bud is grown there. I try to keep an open mind on the subject but don’t always succeed.  Recently, a friend sent me the following.  It reminded me of this community’s bias and my own. Funny how elsewhere, indoor is perceived as the higher value crop but here in Humboldt it can sometimes have a taint.

Which Side of the Door

I sat at a table last weekend with a group of people who were sharing joints. One asked about the origin of one of the doobies. “Indoor, or out?”

The grower’s pride filled answer, “Indoor,” was followed by a quick declination of that particular jay by the person who made the query.

I am pretty sure that there were more indoor joints in circulation right then among the smokers, but the one joint designated as indoor suddenly became the only one I was sure of the location of in the casual “medicine” exchanges taking place.

Today, as I visited a friend’s light dep greenhouse scene, I had to wonder, which side of the door is this technique classified as? Is light depping 2 summer crops bad? Must the grower label the herb? Not quite natural?

I like indoor. A good grower can produce very good crops indoor, although it costs more money to make the product. It should not be villainized as bad weed, simply because of the side of the door it originated on.

Standing on the outside of the door looking in, I don’t like the artificial light that glows in a room fueled by oil drilled in our oceans and on our lands, but I also don’t like division and self-righteousness.  Can we reach from both sides of the door?  Is there a place for compromise when the world is so damaged already?

Or, does the worst kind of damage happen when doors close and people refuse to open them and reach towards each other?
