California isn’t the only state looking to legalize marijuana in the coming year.  Washington, Oregon, Nevada surround us and all are  going to have legalize cannabis initiatives on the ballot either this fall or next.  Even more importantly for the many growers of Humboldt that export to places back east, those states are all likely to vote for legalization.  Speculation is that this will cut into the amount of black-market marijuana being sold from this area.

This last weekend, Washington delegates to the Democratic state convention voted to endorse  the initiate to legalize the use and sale of marijuana (which hasn’t yet even been formerly been put on the ballot ) 314 to 185!

This is just a reminder that legalization is coming. Business people (legal or illegal) that depend on black market prices need to be thinking about putting away money or investing in other ways to increase their income.  This fall’s Prop. 19 is not going to kill the black market but it is a gentle indication that prices are probably going down.

I love this county.  420 tourism is one way to bring money into the area but there are others.  I know of many new businesses waiting (or not) to capitalize on the changes.  There is the Tea House Collective, 707 College, two smoke rooms, two labs, another collective to name the ones on the top of my head.  I also know of people planning to market juice and other edibles as well as salves.

Congratulations on all the new enterprises and let me know about any more that are starting up.
