penis art

— Breaking! This week’s Lumberjack informs us that the living sculpture above, which an art major spent over a semeseter creating, was forcibly removed from display at the HSU greenhouse. Now the artist is calling shenanigans!

Turns out that the chair of the biological sciences department had the thing yanked after just a couple of days. The greenhouse manager was totally cool with it, though, and he says some pretty great things about the purpose of a university and such.

If any other art majors are hunting around for a senior project, might I make a suggestion? Something has gotta be done with that Lumberjack Web site.

— As expected, the LoCO has been notified that the county is gonna need some extra time to respond to our big public records act request. Not quite clear why a risk management officer is replying to a request filed upon the county administrative officer, but we’ll let that hang for now.

Quoth:

Dear Mr. Sims:

I am responding to your letter requesting copies of public records pursuant to California Government Code §6250 and received by this office on April 15, 2011 in which you request the following documents:

1. Any e-mail correspondence sent to or received by members of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors from or to the following individuals over the past twelve moths:

— Robin P. (“Rob”) Arkely II

— Shirley Fuller

— Randy Gans

— Lee Ulansey

— William S. (“Bill”) Pierson

— Jennifer Kalt

— Scott Greacen

— Elizabeth Conner

2. Any e-mail correspondence sent to or received by employees of the Humboldt County Community Development Services, Planning Division from or to the individuals listed above over the same period.

In order to respond to all parts of your request we need to search through a sizable amount of records. This effort is taking us longer than the statutory 10-day response period allows. Accordingly, we are providing you with notice pursuant to the California Public Records Act, Government Code 6253(c)(2) that we are extending the time in which to respond to your public records act request by an additional 14 days. We will provide you with a determination no later than May 9, 2011. If we are able to complete our determination before this date we will let you know. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Sincerely,

Jo Ann Gath

Risk Manager
