UPDATE, 11:05 a.m.: We’re being told that the accident took place Tuesday evening on Scenic Drive in Westhaven. A trusted source forwards us the following e-mail, which was written by a friend who spoke to Susan O.:

He was hit by casino, was pulling over in narrow stretch for truck to pass, hit mud and fell into truck. Still in ICU […] and Susan thinks he will be home early next week.

We’re still pretty sketchy on the details of this, but current Arcata Mayor Susan Ornelas says via Facebook that her husband, former Arcata Mayor Bob O., was hit by a truck while riding his bike. He’s in the hospital with five broken ribs and a punctured lung, but is doing well.

The Arcata Police Department couldn’t find a record of the incident. More details shortly, we hope.
