Events in Humboldt leap off the stage and into the audience. Like cult movies that draw half their energy from audience interaction, North Coast events are part theater and part evolving creations. Fire Fusion 4/20 at the Mateel last Friday began with music and ended with burlesque but the crowds were half the fun.

Below are some scenes from a very unique experience.  Here’s the three foot long joint made not with cheap shake like you’d expect but mostly from Humboldt’s “finest outdoor organic ganja,” as one of its creators explained.

The fire dancers glowed like elfin creatures.

And their skill was impressive.

Of course, on 4/20 every grower brought their stash to show off.
