Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Press Release:
On 04-24-2012, approximately 1:00 a.m. a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy saw a green Toyota pickup truck with no operating tail lights near 5th and Myrtle Avenue, Eureka. The deputy stopped the truck for the vehicle code violation at the Circle K gas station on 6th Street, Eureka. The deputy contacted the driver of the truck who identified himself as Kevin Lawrence Rossiter, 35 years old from Eureka. A second deputy showed up at the scene to assist with the traffic stop. Rossiter had a passenger in the vehicle that identified himself as “Chris Hart.” The passenger appeared to be very nervous when talking with the deputies. The passenger exited the vehicle during the traffic stop and was instructed by the deputies to stay in the vehicle. The passenger told the deputies he had to use the restroom. The passenger took off running towards northbound Highway U.S. 101. One of the deputies pursued him on foot, repeatedly telling “Hart” to stop as he was approaching oncoming traffic. The deputy deployed a
Taser at “Hart “ as he was entering onto U.S. 101, which stopped him, and took him into custody. Hart then admitted giving the deputy a false name, and told the deputy he had a felony warrant for his arrest for being a parolee at large out of San Diego. He told the deputy his true name was Kevin Scott Perrine, 44 years old from Escondido, California. Perrine was uninjured during the arrest.
Deputies searched the vehicle and located approximately a half ounce of suspected methamphetamine in the center console and approximately $1,600.00 cash in various denominations, various ammunition and prescription narcotic pills.
Perrine was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession for sale of methamphetamine and transportation of methamphetamine, resisting arrest and the felony arrest warrant.
Rossiter was arrested for driving on a suspended license, possession, possession for sale and
transportation of methamphetamine. Both were transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Perrine is being held without bail, Rossiter’s bail is set at $50,000.00.
