Big overnight winds have knocked out power in locations all around the county. The PG&E outage map currently shows spot outages all around the greater Humboldt Bay Area, the causes of which seem, so far, to be downed trees.
The biggest outage reported is in the Myrtletown area, where some 750 customers have been without power since the wee hours. Smaller disruptions in service are occurring in Arcata, McKinleyville, Fortuna, Blue Lake, Trinidad — just about everywhere. (Ferndale was out for a bit this morning, but has since been restored.
Callers tell us that Freshwater’s Garfield Elementary all Freshwater schools have canceled classes today.
A National Weather Service meteorologist tells KSLG’s John Matthews that the wind is dying down, but you can expect plenty of precipitation in the coming days. Snow levels in Humboldt County are forecast to extend down to 2500 feet. However, the meteorologist says, we may well have dry weather on Christmas day.
