From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

When deputies arrived they spoke with the victims who were uninjured. The deputies learned the suspects fled just prior to their arrival. The three male victims, ages 22, 16 and12 years old told the deputies there was a knock at the front door. When the 22 year old male went to the door and looked outside to see who was knocking, he saw a male pointing a handgun at the door. The 22 year male victim yelled to his brothers to get away and the suspect kicked the door open. Two male suspects then entered the residence one armed with a silver colored semi-automatic pistol, the other with an approximate 16” long metal pipe or baton. The one suspect pointed the handgun at the victims while the pipe wielding suspect duct taped the three victim’s wrists behind their backs. The suspects then demanded money from the victims. Both suspects had their faces covered with masks.
The residence telephone rang during the attempted robbery and the answering machine picked up. The parents of the victims had been alerted as to what was occurring and called the home. When the suspects heard the message and that law enforcement was notified they immediately fled.
