Last month we told you about the Fortuna Police Department’s arrest of a local man, Phoenix Runningwolf, on charges of sex crimes against a child. The press release from the FPD was vague and somewhat startling. It said only that Runningwolf had been reported as “taking pictures” of a local child, and that probable cause for the suspect’s arrest was found through the county’s Child Abuse Services Team’s interview of the victim.
There has been little movement in the case since that time, but here’s a brief update of what we know.
Runningwolf was released from jail a couple of days after he was arrested. Yesterday, the District Attorney’s Office told the Lost Coast Outpost that it has not yet brought charges, but neither has it ruled out the possibility of filing charges at a later date. Right now the DA is seeking more information from the Fortuna Police Department, which lately has not returned calls.
That’s where we’re at now. More to follow.
