News from Humboldt Baykeeper Executive Director Beth Werner:

Hello Water Warriors,

I am writing today to tell you some difficult and exciting news that I want you to hear from me first. I have decided to return to school to obtain my M.S. in Strategic Fundraising for Nonprofits. After working as the director I have become intimately aware of the need for professionals to manage development strategies to build the capacity needed to accomplish our mission. We are all facing uphill battles with our budgets and I know that increasing our financial resources will make a huge difference in our effectiveness.

Working as the director and as your Baykeeper has been a dream come true, and I know that returning to school will increase our ability to better protect Humboldt Bay and the coast. I will stay on staff through July and continue working with the organization once I am in school. I came into this work for a love of the environment and know that I will be a better asset with professional strategic fundraising skills.

Humboldt Baykeeper is now looking for a new director and will have the job announcement posted on our website this afternoon. We are looking for a dynamic leader that has experience in management, fundraising and is dedicated to environmental protection. We will begin reviewing resumes ASAP.

Thank you for embracing me as the director and for your support through this difficult decision. This is a wonderful community and organization, and I look forward to our next steps.

All the best - Beth

Werner replaced Pete Nichols, Baykeeper’s original ED and co-founder, early last year after he accepted a position as Pacific Coast Regional Representative with the Waterkeeper Alliance.
