Yesterday’s report of a dying dog allegedly found at the North Jetty garnered a lot of commentary. Here’s the follow-up from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 11-30-2012, after conducting an investigation regarding the below Animal Cruelty Case, the Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Officer learned the person who brought the injured dog to the Humboldt County Sheriff Animal Shelter was actually the person responsible for the dog. The person admitted to making the whole story up. He said he surrendered the dog to the Animal Control Officer to make sure the dog was treated humanely.

The Sheriff’s Office is still following up on this investigation and will be submitting the case to the Humboldt County District Attorneys Office to seek a charge of filing a false police report.
