UPDATE 2:30 P.M.: According to the Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Office,
On 04-1-2013, approximately 2:00 a.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the California Highway Patrol (C.H.P.) of a lost motorist in the Paradise Ridge Area, Shelter Cove.
The lost motorist was able to call 911 and ask for assistance. C.H.P. dispatched officers out to the area of the motorist using the cell phone GPS coordinates. Officers attempted to locate the motorist for over two hours driving roads in the area near the coordinates provided, sounding their sirens and horns. When CHP efforts failed to locate the motorist the Sheriff’s Office was notified at 4:00 a.m. A search and rescue was initiated. Search and rescue deputies responded to the area and located the motorists at 11:00 a.m. in the 5000 block of Paradise Ridge road behind a locked gate. The lost motorist had driven around the gate and became stuck in the roadway. The motorists were in a sport utility vehicle and were identified as Marlene Elias, 27 years old from Sausalito, California and Michael Breen, 25 years old from Hayward,California. Both were in good health. Deputies gave them a ride to Garberville to arrange for a tow truck to retrieve their vehicle.
Search is on for missing campers out in the Ettersburg area. The Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Search and Rescue is combing the area.

Campers called for help, 2:20 am, the call originated near 5000 Paradise Ridge Road but CHP couldn’t find them. HCSO Search and Rescue is now combing the area near Goodman Ranch Road. As of 8:30 am, HCSO says, “Their car was found with the camping equipment, but the campers have not been located.”
