Humboldt Surfrider volunteers clean up torched RV residue and other garbage
Anyone who has spent time on the Samoa peninsula knows it serves as an illegal dumping ground for all sorts of trash and toxic waste. Sightings of household garbage are common, and last fall an abandoned RV was torched and burned to the ground. Humboldt Surfrider helped facilitate the removal and clean-up of the RV, and has since been meeting with Humboldt County staff and supervisors to figure how to address this ongoing problem.
To that end, Humboldt Surfrider has appointed a Samoa Peninsula Clean-Up Captain, local surfer and activist Weston Call, who will discuss the campaign (which will likely have a snazzier name) at the Surfrider meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the Humboldt Brews music room.
Everyone who is tired of trash being dumped on the beach is welcome to join. (Anyone who prefers trash being dumped on the beach is also welcome.) More info about Humboldt Surfrider and other events here.
