Eureka Police Department press release:
At about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday (08/10/13), officers with the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to security check a residence in the 1700 block of “P” Street. The reporting party told dispatch there was an open door to a residence at this location, and that the door had possibly been open for a couple of days.
When the officers arrived on scene, they discovered a door on the north side of the residence standing open. The officers entered to conduct a security check and found the residence was being utilized as a commercial marijuana growing operation. With their discovery, the officers notified detectives from the Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP), who responded and took over the investigation.
A search warrant for the residence was obtained and served at about 4:00 a.m. During their search detectives located and seized 298 budding marijuana plants, which were ready to harvest. It appeared the residence was not being lived in, but was instead being used specifically to grow marijuana.
