Suspected serial car thief, Paul Bareilles was arrested yesterday by Eureka Police Sergeant Rodrigo Reyna-Sanchez

Bareilles was arrested July 3rd with what a satchel containing what the EPD described as “[t]ools and items commonly used in vehicle theft.” (See photo right.)

Bareilles was released.

Then on August 8th another vehicle was reported stolen. The owner’s wife, a Bekki Scotto, asked LoCO to post a description of the vehicle. 241 readers shared the post around Facebook.

Later, Scotto wrote,” The truck was found, thanks to someone seeing fb posts and calling it in. EPD chased them into sequoia park and they smashed into some trees, then ran off. Cops know who it was. Tools mostly there, truck totally smashed. Thanks again LCP and all the nice reposters!!

The EPD said that Sgt. Reyna-Sanchez was able to identify the driver of the stolen truck as Bareilles before the suspect escaped.

Yesterday, according to an EPD spokesperson, Bareilles was seen walking northbound around 1:40 P.M. in the 2100 block of California St. by Sergeant Rodrigo Reyna-Sanchez.  Bareilles was arrested without incident and booked on the warrant for his arrest based on the August 8th vehicle theft.
