UPDATE: 8:15 A.M.: The Facebook page of the US National Weather Service in Eureka states, “We’re in for another warm one along the coast today. The current temperature here on Woodley Island is 65 F. Looking at coastal temperatures to push 70 F again this afternoon.”

Residents around Humboldt Bay enjoyed (or not) record high temperatures yesterday. According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the county seat reached 74° which beats the previous record in 1990 of 70°. Even though the town climbs to its highest yearly temperatures in August, the average high historically for this month is a mere 64°. Nonetheless, yesterday’s high fell far short of the top temperature on record for this notoriously fogbound city—in 1993, Eureka topped out at 87°.

The warmth and light brought out the city’s most charming aspects and Humboldt resident Walt Frazer sent LoCO these gorgeous evening photos of the Eureka’s waterfront.
