Fortuna Police Dept. Press Release:

On December 27, 2013 at about 6:00 p.m., the Fortuna Police Department received a report of a missing 91 year old female. The missing person’s family reported that she had left the residence more than an hour prior and had not returned. The family was concerned because of the missing person’s age and medical history

Officers with the department responded to 4100 block of Mill Street (a rural & heavily wooded area) and began searching for the missing person. Soon after, the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department also responded with about 15 members and began assisting in the search.

At about 7:15 p.m. the female was located approximately 300 yards from her residence in heavy brush.

The female, Dorthy Nelson, was transported by ambulance to Redwood Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Original Post: This is breaking news and details are still emerging but, according to scanner traffic, a 91-year-old woman was lost in the Fortuna area today about 5 P.M.. Searchers were looking around Mill Street.

Crews have been searching but now she has been found. Apparently, she wandered off and then fell. We are still awaiting news on how she is doing.
