From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
On 02-25-2013, approximately 1:30 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call from McKinleyville High School reporting a theft of copper wire.
When the deputy responded to the High School, officials told the investigating deputy the unknown suspect(s) stole a large quantity of copper wire from the football stadium lights which is brand new. The suspect(s) removed the access panels that exposed the conduit for the stadium lighting and removed it. The high school is still evaluating the actual loss and damage; however it is estimated to be at least $1000.00 in copper wire alone. The suspects used a pulling object and hacksaw to remove the wire. The cost of rewiring the football field could be extensive. Officials told the deputy they believe the wire was removed on the night of February 21, 2013.
