From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 01-8-2013, a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Livestock deputy responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Bolier Avenue, McKinleyville in regards to a welfare check of a reported skinny horse. When the deputy arrived at the residence he met with the horse owner and viewed the horse. The deputy determined the horse was not being neglected and was under a veterinarians care.

While speaking with the horse owner, the deputy smelled the strong odor of growing marijuana emanating from the residence. The deputy left the area and obtained a Humboldt County Superior Court Search Warrant for the residence.

On 01-11-2013, approximately 3:00 p.m. the deputy returned to the residence with additional deputies and served the search warrant. They located 195 growing marijuana plants in the residence ranging from 12”to 14” in height. They also located packaging material, approximately 1.5 lbs of marijuana bud and approximately $1,400.00 in cash.

No arrests were made at the scene, however the case is being submitted to the Humboldt County District Attorneys Office along with an arrest warrant requesting charges of cultivation and possession for sale of marijuana.
