According to Terri Klemetson of KMUD, “[D]isaster and emergency reporting are key components of our newsroom production and overall mission of our station. But we can’t do it alone, Calfire is projecting a scary fire season, so KMUD News needs to plan and practice.” Therefore, the radio station is offering training in reporting to community members who want help out.
Klemetson says, “Our Emergency Response Team includes people who send photos and audio clips to the newsroom, people who can travel to KMUD at a moment’s notice to help during an unplanned emergency, like the earthquake in Japan and resulting tsunami and people who produce stories for the Local News.”
Klemetson believes that the community supported radio station could benefit from the help of a variety of people. She says that everyone is invited to participate in the coming training “whether you take pictures of a fire and send them to the newsroom or go out and interview people impacted by a landslide, all skills are needed.”
According to Klemetson,
