UPDATE 3/6: Fortuna Police Dept. Press Release:
Fortuna, CA – On March 5th, 2013 at approximately 1009 hours, an officer with the Fortuna Police Department contacted Jacob Hines, age 27 of Fortuna, near the intersection of Ninth and K Street in Fortuna. Upon advisement that he was being placed under arrest for the warrant, Hines elected to evade arrest by fleeing the area on foot. After a search that spanned over two blocks and lasted only a few minutes, Hines was located and arrested in a residents garage a block away from the initial contact.
Due to the initial contact being in close proximity to the Fortuna Middle School, and the fact that school officials witnessed the subject flee from officers, staff elected to place the school in lockdown status to ensure the safety of the students. The lockdown was lifted moments later when Hines was taken into custody.
Hines was booked into the Humboldt County Jail on the following charges;
• Warrant: Violation of a Court Order
• Warrant: Grand Theft
• Warrant: Trespassing
• PC 148(a): Resists Police Officer
