CHP Press Release:

On October 25, 2013, at approximately 1:50 PM, a 1980 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a single male rider was traveling eastbound on State Route 36 in the vicinity of milepost 36-HUM-20.93.  For reasons still under investigation, the male rider lost control, crossed the centerline, and entered the westbound lane.  The motorcycle then collided head-on with a 1999 Ford pickup truck, driven by Hayley Depute of McKinleyville, which was traveling westbound on State Route 36 at that location.  The rider of the 1980 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, whose identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, was wearing a helmet and sustained fatal injuries during the collision.  Ms. Depute, the solo occupant / driver of the 1999 Ford pickup truck, was wearing her seat belt and sustained minor injuries during the collision.  One-way traffic control was in place for approximately 4 hours as a result of this incident. 

The California Highway Patrol - Humboldt Area responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation.  Emergency personnel from the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, the Carlotta Volunteer Fire Department, Cal-Fire, and City Ambulance also responded to the scene.  CalTrans also responded to the scene and conducted the extended one-way traffic control.  The cause of the collision is still under investigation at this time.
